What is a browser

What is a browser?A browser is a search engine??? Really? It’s pretty hard to believe that in 2009, of all the people who were interviewed for this video, less than 8% actually knew what a browser was. I tell you folks, this is truly a sad day for the geek nation. It seems that we’ve got a lot of work on our hands to educate the infidels.

Miuccia Bianchi Prada

Miuccia Bianchi Prada (born Maria Bianchi in May 10, 1949 is an Italian fashion designer. In 1978, she inherited the Prada SpA business from her mother, and she and her husband Patrizio Bertelli led the company’s expansion into ready-to-wear apparell. The youngest granddaughter of Prada founder Mario Prada, she has a ePh.D. in Political Scienc.

Prada has long been a financial supporter of art. She recently organized a traveling, art-gallery style display of many skirts she has designed. The exhibition was called “Waist Down”. Prada built her family’s modest luggage brand into a company worth billions. She is the younger daughter of Luigi “Gino” Bianchi and his wife, the former Luisia Prada. She was adopted in the 1980s by her mother’s sister, an act which changed her surname to Prada.

Her maternal. grandfather, Mario Prada, and his brother, Martino, founded the family luxury leather goods company in Milan in 1913; called Fratelli Prada, it was originally a small luxury goods and accessories shop. In 1978, a reluctant Miuccia assumed the reins from her mother, after completing a PhD in Political Science.
She was an unlikely successor, having spent the last five years studying and performing mime at Milan’s Teatro Piccolo, being a paid-up member of the Communist party and champion of women’s rights in seventies’ Milan. But she soon proved her worth. In 1985, she designed a new line of black, unlabelled, hard-wearing, but finely-woven nylon handbags that immediately became must-haves for the fashion cognoscenti, seen hanging off the arm of the likes of Jerry Hall and Marie Helvin. With retail prices starting at around £250, a bootlegging industry quickly sprang up, making the authentic articles even more desirable. More importantly, Prada bags were established as the accessory of choice for supermodels and fashion editors the world over.

Prada launched her eponymous ready-to-wear collection for autumn/winter 1989 to critical acclaim. The plain, almost austere lines of her designs provided a stark contrast to the overtly sensual designs of other labels of the time and one admiring fashion journalist described Prada’s clothes as “uniforms for the slightly disenfranchised”. In 1992, she debuted the less expensive bridge line Miu Miu (Miuccia’s nickname), inspired by her personal wardrobe of earthier, hippyish garments in natural fabrics and colours.

Clean and stylish designs, fine materials and exquisite craftsmanship conspired to win Prada a Council of Fashion Designers of America International Award in 1993. A year later, she showed in New York for the first time and opened her London boutique. She now shows for Prada and Miu Miu twice a year in Milan.

Intractable

A word I found in a paper (”Graph optimization problems are known to be intractable”) and that seems very close to french.

intractable  (n-trkt-bl)
adj
1. Difficult to manage or govern; stubborn. See Synonyms at unruly.
2. Difficult to mold or manipulate: intractable materials.
3. Difficult to alleviate, remedy, or cure: intractable pain.

Only 3 active adSense slots on page

The qustion is  whether or not you can have more than three slots per page enabled for AdSense price optimization on a page, versus how many AdSense ads can actually serve. You can have more than three ad slots enabled for AdSense on a single page if the following criteria is met:

1. The ad slots are not exclusively showing AdSense, and other line items are rotating through the slots.
2. If at any time, you have three slots that exclusively show AdSense, and no other line items are targeting the slots, then it is your responsibility to disable AdSense on your other slots in order to adhere to the AdSense Terms of Service.

SEO: Make your site easier to navigate

The navigation of a website is important to help search engines understand what content the webmaster thinks is important. Although Google’s search results are provided at a page level, Google also likes to have a sense of what role a page plays in the bigger picture of the site.

All sites have a home or “root” page, which is usually the most frequented page on the site and the
starting place of navigation for many visitors. Unless your site has only a handful of pages, you should
think about how visitors will go from a general page (your root page) to a page containing more
specific content.

Do you have enough pages around a specific topic area that it would make sense to create a page describing these related pages (e.g. root page -> related topic listing -> specific topic)?
Do you have hundreds of different products that need to be classified under multiple category and subcategory pages?

What is a site-map ?

A sitemap (lower-case) is a simple page on your site that displays the structure of your website, and usually consists of a hierarchical listing of the pages on your site. Visitors may visit this page if they are having problems finding pages on your site.

While search engines will also visit this page, getting good crawl coverage of the pages on your site, it’s mainly aimed at human visitors.

An XML Sitemap (upper-case) file, which you can submit through Google’s Webmaster Tools, makes it easier for Google to discover the pages on your site. Using a Sitemap file is also one way (though not guaranteed) to tell Google which version of a URL you’d prefer as the canonical one (e.g. http://brandonsbaseballcards.com/ or http://www.brandonsbaseballcards.com/; ). Google helped create the open source Sitemap Generator script to help you create a Sitemap file for your site.

Good practices for site navigation

Create a naturally flowing hierarchy -

Make it as easy as possible for users to go from general content to the more specific content they want on your site. Add navigation pages when it makes sense .

Avoid:

• creating complex webs of navigation links, e.g. linking every page on your site to every other page

• going overboard with slicing and dicing your content (it takes twenty clicks to get to deep content)

Use mostly text for navigation -

Controlling most of the navigation from page to page on your site through text links makes it easier for search engines to crawl and understand your site. Many users also prefer this over other approaches, especially on some devices that might not handle Flash or JavaScript.

Avoid:

• having a navigation based entirely on drop-down menus, images, or animations (many, but not all, search engines can discover such links on a site, but if a user can reach all pages on a site via normal text links, this will improve the accessibility of your site)

Use “breadcrumb” navigation -

A breadcrumb is a row of internal links at the top or bottom of the page that allows visitors to quickly navigate back to a previous section or the root page. Many breadcrumbs have the most general page (usually the root page) as the first, left-most link and list the more specific sections out to the right.

Put an HTML sitemap page on your site, and use an XML Sitemap file -

A simple sitemap page with links to all of the pages or the most important pages (if you have hundreds or thousands) on your site can be useful. Creating an XML Sitemap file for your site helps ensure that search engines discover the pages on your site.

Avoid:

• letting your HTML sitemap page become out of date with broken links

• creating an HTML sitemap that simply lists pages without organizing them, for example by subject

Consider what happens when a user removes part of your URL -

Some users might navigate your site in odd ways, and you should anticipate this. For example, instead of using the breadcrumb links on the page, a user might drop off a part of the URL in the hopes of finding more general content.

Have a useful 404 page -

Users will occasionally come to a page that doesn’t exist on your site, either by following a broken link or typing in the wrong URL. Having a custom 404 page that kindly guides users back to a working page on your site can greatly improve a user’s experience. Your 404 page should probably have a link back to your root page and could also provide links to popular or related content on your site.

Google provides a 404 widget that you can embed in your 404 page to automatically populate it with many useful features.
You can also use Google Webmaster Tools to find the sources of URLs causing “not found” errors.

Avoid:

• allowing your 404 pages to be indexed in search engines (make sure that your webserver is configured to give a 404 HTTP status code when non-existent pages are requested)

• providing only a vague message like “Not found”, “404″, or no 404 page at all

• using a design for your 404 pages that isn’t consistent with the rest of your site

How to find a number in a string

This few lines will let you find a number in astring.

       Regex re = new Regex(@"\d+");
        Match m = re.Match(txtFindNumber.Text);

Bob Dylan: Top 13 songs

0) Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

The melodic line is peacefull, the lyrics sad, the voice sublime. It’s somehow a teenager song in that perioud of self discouvering. At least it was for me.

1)Blowing in the Wind

The only song I really knew before looking over this guy’s lyrics and discouver how much of a genious he is. The song is s a cry for peace, love, and equality.

2)Bob Dylan- It ain`t me babe

A sweet and tender song dedicated to all the married people. Classic Dylan. He basically says, “Look honey, I’m not going to be your perfect man because I’m human. I’m going to be me. Get outta here.”

3)Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right

It remins me of a romanian song that is probably inspired by it. It’s the kind of song you listen to when you go to sleep. He  uses folk images to depict a failed modern-day relationship. Dylan delivers the final blow with casually thrown out lyrics, delivered almost as an aside, saying to his former lover, “You just sort of wasted my precious time. Don’t think twice it’s alright.”

4)Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street

A lyrically-driven song directed to someone Dylan sees as a charlatan, someone he claims “would rather see me paralyzed.” “Why don’t you just come out once and scream it,” he asks, begging for a little truth, a removal of the mask of politics and politeness.

5)Like a Rolling Stone

9 mninutes! 9 minutes of nice lyrocs about going up and down in life!

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discover that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

How many songs with nice lyrics do you know ?

6) Desolation Row

A bamlade..sweet and slow and sleepy

7)Bob Dylan - Shelter From the Storm

This is Bob Dylan’s song about the redemptive power of women. Really good song. Fast paced and positive. Dylan sings, “Try imagining a place where it’s always safe and warm. Come in, she said I’ll give ya’ shelter from the storm.” I guess Dylan had time for at least one good relationship.

8)A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall

A poetic one!

9)Tangled Up in Blue

A happy song about two loosers who become that as life drove them along. A good wrtitten storry, a realistic plot, a degree of ignorance absolutely adorable. Life is like that I suppose.

10) Hurricane

I like the rythm. It’s about two guys who entered a bar and starting shooting. You would’t guess it from the instrumantal music.

11) Not Dark Yet

Another balade. Haunting and heartbreaking. Dylan ponders mortality, and if anything is still worth living for here. So it’s chilling to hear him croak in his tortured voice: “I just don’t see why I should even care/It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there.”

12) Just Like A Woman

Just 4 the lyrics

“You fake just like a woman, you make love just like a woman, you ache just like a woman, but you break just like a little girl.”

Bob Dylan: Love Minus Zero/No Limit

“Love Minus Zero” does not tell any particular story and seems to make a point of being abstract (what’s all this statues made of matchsticks business about?).

The title is a way of saying “love without limits or boundaries” , about a relationship founded on unconditional love. During this song you could actually imagine for a second that unconditional love actually exists or that there is somebody worthy of being described as “true like ice, like fire”.

The first verse starts with a description of Dylan’s love, and then the lyrics make their way through bus stations, through candle-lit dark rooms, and across bridges long past twilight, only returning occasionally to mention his love as a counterpoint to the strangeness he sees all around him, even as “a raven/at my window with a broken wing”.

She may be vulnerable like all of us, but she’s still the rock Dylan leans on without hesitation or thinking twice.Sweet ? Maybe.. Too sweet ? Don’t think so
